Ponyo Review

Ponyo Review
So the other day I got a phone call from a good friend saying, “call your girlfriend and see if she wants to go see Ponyo.” I called her up and she was really excited too see the movie, so it was decided, we would go out for a movie.
I’m not going to go into the plot at all in this review, but I will describe elements that really made the movie stand out. The visuals of this movie are stunning, with vibrant colors and beautiful animations. The music is another thing of beauty. The score really captures the mood of the movie, and added a layer of emotion to the movie. The voice acting was top notch, and the movie features a slew of famous names. Liam Neeson, Cate Blanchett, Matt Damon, and Tina Fey are only a few. The movie also features the voice of the youngest Jonas brother, Frankie, as well as Miley Cyrus’s sister Noah Lindsay.
My main complaint has to do with the nature of most of the Hayao Miyazaki films. I feel that Miyazaki spends too much time building up to a climax and then resolves too quick. I feel that this really takes away from the gratification of watching the entire build up and climax. Sadly, Ponyo is guilty of this as well. Overall, I would say that Ponyo was an enjoyable film and I would recommend this to people other than just anime fans.
Verdict: B+
