Official AIRTIGHT Seal!

The originally canceled Dark Void game titled Dark Rift for the NES® platform and the PlayChoice-10 NES arcade cabinet will be coming to Nintendo DSi.

That game was called “Dark Rift,” which blended the action of Section Z with the platforming of Mega Man. The hardware engineering team at Capcom had to design and produce an all-new chipset in every cartridge in order to display huge numbers of sprites and “never-before-seen” special effects. To complicate matters worse, the hardware requirements for Dark Void became redundant and the PlayChoice-10 was discontinued. This led to the Capcom suspending development on Dark Void while they eyed a home for the game on the SNES which also never saw the light of day. The game then the game drifted into an infinite void… until now.

What became of this lost project is the next generation Dark Void coming out for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. To celebrate Dark Void’s humble beginnings, Capcom has commissioned the recreation of the 8-bit classic into the retitled “Dark Void Zero,” for the DSi.

“You play as Rusty, the first human born in the Void, who must take on the Watchers in a quest to stop their domination of Earth. With the aid of Nikola Tesla, and his state-of-the-art rocket pack, Rusty must take down the Watchers and their minions across three intense levels of action and intrigue.”

I wonder what other lost titles Capcom has up their sleeves… It’s definitely nice to see 8-bit titles still being made for the next generation audience. Capcom leaves us now with a trailer and screen-shots!
