AVP demo patched for PC and soon the PS3
Aside from the Xbox 360, Sega has released a patch for PC and soon for the PS3 regarding matchmaking issues resulting in players having to wait extended periods of time before they can join games, which developer Rebellion apologizes for.
The latest statement from AvP developers Rebellion regarding multiplayer demo match making issues have been addressed by the Sega Twitter. The Xbox 360 AvP demo seem to be running rock solid while the PC version had to be patched with PS3 patch on the way as well.
“Unprecedented demand for Aliens vs Predator following the release of the cross-platform demo yesterday morning brought to light matchmaking issues on the PC platform resulting in players having to wait to join games, or even not find games at all.”
“We’re pleased to say later in the day the issue was corrected and a small patch to the PC executable next time you launch it from Steam will have you finding and playing games using Quick Match as it was intended.”
“While this issue did not affect the Xbox 360, we are with SEGA’s assistance investigating reports of a similar nature on the PlayStation 3 and working flat out on a solution.”
“The full game features the ability to browse for and create games but for the purposes of simplicity the demo was limited to matchmaking, alongside the ability to set up groups with friends which mitigated yesterday’s issues for many.”
“We’re really sorry that this issue tainted a day in which we saw many people get hands on with AvP for the first time and we’re hugely gratified by the positive feedback to the game.”
However, this is not the first time a demo has been patched. Valve had word of an automatic update that was available for the Left 4 Dead 2 Demo that fixed an “issue with sound and mic settings being reset when changing lobbies or returning to lobby that affected some Windows 7 and Windows Vista users.
Valve is one of those developers that bleed quality from their history of games. It’s great that Sega is putting attention towards presenting their AvP demo in its best light.
Gamers have been enjoying the demo so far, some not so much. Their opinions might change when the game releases on Feb. 16 this month for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
